A 32-year-old farmer, Jacob Seglah, a resident of Gomoa Odamu near Gomoa Dominase, has been remanded into prison custody by an Agona Swedru Circuit Court, presided over by Mr N.K.E. Osam, for defiling a 15-year-old student.
He was charged with defilement but he pleaded not guilty to the offence and is to re-appear in court on January 23, 2012.
Prosecuting, Inspector Alfred Boatey told the court that the complainant is l5-year-old student (name withheld) and a class six pupil of the Gomoa Odumase Primary School, a suburb of Gomoa Dominase and the accused is also a farmer who lives at Odamu Junction, a few distance away from the victim's village.
According to him, on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at about 2:30 p.m., the victim closed from school and was in the company of three other friends and they were discussing their unpaid examination printing fees.
The accused who was in his farm heard the conversation and asked the victim whether she had paid hers, to which she said no.
The accused then told the victim to come for the money the next day.
According to the prosecutor, on Wednesday, December 7,2011, at about 7:30 a.m., the victim was on her way to school when she decided to pass by the accused’s farm for the money.
The accused gave her GH¢2, after which he dragged the victim into the nearby bush and had sex with her.
After the incident, the victim proceeded to school. When she returned from school, her mother found blood stains in the victim's pants.
When she questioned her, the victim mentioned the accused's name and told her mother about her ordeal.
A report was later made to the Dominase Police after which the case was referred to DOVVSU, Winneba.
The accused went into hiding but was arrested on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, charged and put before court.
