The Reverend Kwabena Darko, President of the National Poultry Farmers Association (PFA), has said the practice of farm bio-security was vital to prevent the outbreak of bird flu and other viral diseases on farms.
Bio-security method is aimed at promoting and adhering to strict farm preventive methods by all poultry farmers.
Rev. Darko said this at a day's workshop organised by the PFA at Takoradi for members of the Western Regional Poultry farmers Association.
The workshop was aimed at sensitising poultry farmers in the Western Region on the need to adopt prudent husbandry practices in the care and maintenance of poultry.
Rev. Darko said the poultry industry was severely affected by the bird flu and farmers should not underestimate the danger that the flu posed to the industry.
Dr Joseph A. Awuni, a member of the board, said bird flu had no specific clinical and pathological signs and efforts must be made to diagnose and treat sick birds without delay.
