The Alliance for Reproductive Health Right (ARHR), a network of civil society organisations has launched the citizens' action and health Millennium Development Goals (MDG's) Project at Atonkwa near Elmina.
The project is aimed at raising awareness on HIV/AIDS, malaria, maternal health and other diseases.
The launch would enable ARHR to monitor health sector inputs and outputs and put a spotlight on issues that made it difficult to resource poor people in deprived communities from accessing mainstream health services.
Professor James Annorbah-Sarpei, chairman of ARHR said government was already working on the goals but without the people making demands for each goal, there would be no progress towards achieving them.
He said it was expected that all the eight goals of the MDG's would be achieved by 2015 and called on the people to work in conjunction with the government towards achieve them.
Mr George Frank Asmah, the District Chief executive, in a speech read for him to launch the project, commended the efforts of ARHR and its partners for bringing the project close to the people in the district.
Madam Mariatu Seidu of the district directorate of the Ghana Health Service, said for every 100 people who attended health care centres in the district, 60 of them were found to be suffering from malaria and advised the people to purchase the treated mosquito nets.
