Three persons are in the custody of the Sakumono District Police Command for allegedly defrauding a certain Alex Osita, a Ghana-based Nigerian businessman, under the pretext of renting property to him.
The names of the suspects were given as Edward Coleman, 38, footballer, Francis Doeetin, 45, driyer, and Denis Larwar Tey, a 28-year-old businessman. All are residents of Sakumono. .
Superintendent Alex K. Wowolo, Sakumono, District Police Commander, told DAILY GUIDE that Coleman, who happened to be the caretaker of a house posed as the property owner and forged tenancy agreement documents which he used in swindling his victim.
He said Coleman, on December 15, 20 II, collected an amount of GH¢ 120, 000 from Osita and managed to prepare a fake tenancy agreement for his victim bearing his name as property owner.
The Commander disclosed that Coleman, after collecting the said amount, failed to honour his promise and went into hiding.
Lawar and Francis had prevented Osita from entering the supposed house when he visited the place on the second occasion to occupy the building.
Osita, according to the Police Commander, reported the matter to the Sakumono District Police Command and Cole¬man was arrested a month after he had sent Francis to pack his belongings from the house, perhaps so he could escape.
When Francis was arrested, he led the police to Coleman's hideout at a popular hotel in Accra.
Superintendent Wowolo mentioned that during interrogations, Coleman disclosed that he had given part of the said money to Lawar as his share of the booty, adding that the property belonged to a woman domiciled in the United States.
He said that complaints against the three suspects of fraud, using the same modus operandi had started pouring in.
The three would be arraigned before court after investigations into the matter were concluded. He admonished the public to be mindful of such miscreants who claim to be property owners.
