A 15-member committee has been inaugurated to ensure quality up bringing of children in the Volta Region under the Early Childhood Care Development (ECCD) of the Ministry of Women and Children.
The committee, under the chairmanship of Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV, Paramount Chief of Ziavi Traditional Area, would advise the Volta Regional Coordinating Council on ECCD issues.
It is also to play an advocacy role for ECCD using existing regional institutions such as the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Child Related Associations, Private Service Providers to plan and monitor programmes.
Inaugurating the Committee, Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister underscored the importance of ECCD to the country's socio-economic development of the country.
He noted that quality up-bringing of children determined the quality of adult that grew from the child.
Mr Nayan stated that children do not just grow in size, but "develop, evolve and mature mustering ever more complex understanding of the people, objects and challenges in their development".
He charged members of the Committee to discharge their duties with all zeal and diligence to ensure that the rights of children were not violated.
Mr Nayan said the Regional Coordinating Council would support the Committee in its quest to ensure that children were protected and respected.
He charged Municipal and District Chief Executives to establish ECCD Committees locally to address all related issues.
