Mr Israel Narh Baako, Dangme East District Chief Executive has said a fishing harbour would be built at Ada by 2010 as part of measures to stop sea erosion in the area.
He said the project would begin early next year.
Mr Baako said this at a forum organised by the Ada Traditional Council on the devastating effect of the sea erosion.
He said work on the Ada Sea Defence Project would also begin early next year and that construction of groynes and revetment structure were the considered to be the two best among four technical interventions.
Mr Baako said these two interventions would cost approximately 154 million Euros.
He said the Volta River estuary at Azizanya would be opened to allow the free flow of seawater into the Volta River to calm the violent tidal waves.
Mr Baako said government was sourcing for 40 million Euros to start the project from Azizanya to Otrokper, the most affected areas.
Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, Paramount Chief of Ada, appealed to the government to treat the Ada Sea Defence Project with all the seriousness it deserved.
He said more than five nautical miles of the Ada coastal line had been washed away by the sea, and if measures were not put in place now to check the erosion, Ada would submerge in no time.
Mr Alex Narh Tettey-Enyo and Mr Alfred Abayateye, Members of Parliament for Ada and Sege respectively, added their voice to the call on government to salvage the Ada coastal line.Source: GNA
