The World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved four different vaccines to be launched in Ghana by the Ministry of Health to eradicate Cerebro-spinal Meningitis (CSM) disease and improve the health standards of people in the country.This is due to competency shown to them by the ministry to help fight against such diseases.Briefing a section of pressmen, the Health Minister, Mr. Alban Bagbin noted that the country could soon be producing vaccines to combat the disease in coming years.Speaking on Joy News, Sunday, Mr. Bagbin confirmed that 20 people had died from the disease in the Upper East and Upper West regions.He said the disease, though not contagious, has succeeded in infecting over 180 people especially in the northern regions of the country as a result, his outfit is planning an official launch of two of the four vaccines before the close of the month.Cerebro-spinal Meningitis is a dangerous epidemic and febrile disease characterised by inflammation of the membranes of the brain and spinal cord giving rise to severe headaches, tenderness of the back of the neck and paralysis of the ocular muscles among others.Research has proven that, key early warning signs of meningitis in children under 17 years old often include cold hands and feet, abnormal skin colour (pale, bluish or mottled), and leg pains.These symptoms often occur hours before other classic symptoms such as a rash and dislike of bright light.
