The prime suspect in the Woe arson case and six other suspected criminals yesterday broke out of lawful custody at the Anloga Police Station in the Volta Region.Sherry Kudzinawo, the prime suspect, and the other fugitives were said to have used an instrument believed to be a hacksaw to cut the iron bar at the back of the window of the police cell and escaped in that dawn jail break.A source at Anloga said that only one policeman was on duty at the time of the jail break. He said when the policeman on duty opened the cells the following morning, he found that none of the inmates was in the cells.A critical check revealed that the bars in the windows of the building were cut with an instrument believed to be a hacksaw. The crime necessitated an emergency meeting yesterday. However, when the Keta Divisional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Adu Fati emerged from the meeting, he declined to comment.Sherry Kudzinawo, an ex-convict, was arrested as the man suspected to have sprayed the room of a sleeping family with petrol and set it ablaze, killing a man, his wife and their four-year-old grandchild. The victims were Janet Dzikunu, 53, Kofi Telu, 52 and their four-year-old grandson, Eyram Kobla Ametepe.Although the motive behind the action is not clear, it is believed to be connected with an assault case currently before the Keta Circuit Court.Source: Daily Graphic
