The Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo is furious with the Ghana FA for giving the go-ahead for the start of the Premier League despite certain requirements yet to be met.
The Premier League Board (PLB), last week announced the fixtures for the 2017/18 season, with the outspoken administrator questioning the rationale behind the decision when clubs have not met the criteria by the Club Licensing Board.
”Just last week, the GFA wrote to some of the clubs that they’ve not met the criteria and not even applied to the club licensing board to play in the league so they were being charged by the Disciplinary Committee only [for us] to hear that, the fixtures are out," he said on Atinka FM.
"Meanwhile, the Licensing Board has to go around to inspect the various stadia. That has not been done yet so why the publication of the fixtures?” he quizzed.
Fianoo, who also acts as Chief Executive Officer of former champions Ashanti Gold, didn't hide his disappointment with lack of sponsorship.
Since First Capital Plus Bank terminated its five-year contract with the Ghana FA in 2014, the league has been running without a headline sponsor.
”We are going into the league for the third time without sponsors and when you talk they will tell you that they didn’t ask you to do football so go and look for sponsorship yourself.
"If the atmosphere is bad, how can [we] secure sponsorship? The owner of the league must secure sponsorship for the league. We the industry players must get up otherwise it will always be like this” he said.
The new Ghana Premier League season is set to start in the second week of February.
