Ghana’s international reggae music star Rocky Dawuni has expressed excitement at his nomination for Best African Entertainer category for the second time at the International Reggae and World Music Awards to be held in July.
In an exclusive interview with Hitz FM, the Ghanaian reggae legend said he feels honoured for the organizers to continue to acknowledge his contribution of bringing African music and also his brand of reggae music which is very much Ghanaian to the rest of the world.
Rocky was nominated last year in two categories Best Album and Best African Entertainer, which he won the Best African Entertainer.
He said it goes to show the fact that he has been very active on the international scene.
He also disclosed that aside being excited about his nomination, he has also been given the rights to record an unreleased song written by Legendry Bob Marley which he never recorded and it will be part of his upcoming album which will be released this summer.
Rocky said the album title is being debated because he does not want to give it a title now and change it on the day of release.
He wanted Ghanaians to know that Ghanaian music, our flag and what we stand for is being heard all over the world adding that he is working extremely hard to take Ghanaian music to the world.
The In Ghana star added that he believes it is an inspiration to all upcoming musicians that, once they set out their sights very high and are ready to work and put in what is required, they can aspire to higher heights.
He said “I think my music and its impact globally is a testament, that once any child of Ghana has a big dream and be able to go forth ,will achieve it.”
Rocky advised Ghanaians not to take the peace and stability in Ghana for granted but work together to ensure there is peace during the upcoming elections.
