There was wild jubilation at the Ankaful Psychiatry hospital in the Central Region after the removal from office of the Medical Director, Dr Eugene Dordoye, Monday.
The workers who had been on strike in protest over the leadership style of Mr Dodoye said they will immediately resume duty and give their best to their patients and to the country.
According to them, they will be going to church on Sunday to give thanks to God for taking the burden of the Medical Director off their shoulders.
The Public Relations Officer of the nurses, Emmanuel Ofori said they will now have the peace of mind to concentrate and give their all when they return to duty.
“We have been under the previous director for over 10 years without any issue but it has been hell since Dr Dordoye took over. It has been one issue after the other.
“Even management members have been complaining about him. Their attempts to correct him did not also end well,” he said.
He added that it is not the case that they wanted to have their way or to resist change but Dr Dordoye only prioritized Medical officers over other members of the hospital.
The nurses and midwives accused Dr Dordoye of gross disrespect for staff and having poor working and human relations
Last week government pleaded with the aggrieved nurses to resume work because the embattled medical director had been enrolled in an HR training programme.
But this did not appease the nurses.
On Monday afternoon, they received what they described as “good news” from the Deputy Health Minister, Tina Mensah, when she announced the removal of Dr Dordoye.
According to Joy News’ Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, Madam Mensah explained that she was only carrying out the findings and decisions of a committee set up to investigate the issue.
She added that Dr Dordoye has been asked to take some training programme after which he will be reassigned.
The Deputy Minister was tightlipped on the duration of the training programme.
Some elated nurses and midwives who spoke to Joy News were thoroughly excited. “She spoke like a mother to us and we have heard her and we will get to work,” one of them said.
