Renowned world and local sports and entertainment personalities have been named to lock horns at this year’s Stars Soccer Fiesta to raise funds for charity.
The annual event which is in its fifth year is the brain child of Goldstar Consult Limited, with the support of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, and it raises funds annually for charity including donations to the Royal Seed Orphanage in Bodwease in Kasoa in the Central region.
Some of the big names expected to arrive in the country for the fiesta include Anton Ferdinand of Queens Park Rangers, Emmanuel Adebayor of Tottenham, Stephane Sessegnon of Sunderland, legendary Liberian star George Oppong Weah amongst others.
They will join Black Star players, Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan, John Pantsil, Sulley Muntari, John Mensah and a host of others for the event.
The fiesta will, however, not only be about footballers as some of the country’s musicians, actors and media personalities such as Kojo Antwi , Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dedes, Kwasey Pees, Funny Faces, Castros, Samini, Kwabena Kwabena will leave their mics and the screens for the football pitch.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium Kumasi on June 24.
On the day, there will be two curtain raisers with Kumasi Colts facing Accra Colt while Accra Media will also come face-to-face with Kumasi Media.
The main attraction will be when the Black Stars play Music, Movies and Media (MMM) celebrities after the curtain raisers.
Preceding the June 24 fiesta will be a star-studded road show on June 23 with all the stars from Accra through Koforidua to Bonsu Junction to Nkawkaw and then to Kumasi.
As the country gears up for the 2012 general elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) have pledged their support for the event.
The two bodies will use the occasion to deliver a message on the need for political tolerance and peaceful elections in December.
Sammy Anim Addo, CEO Goldstar Consult Limited told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that the EC and the NCCE coming onboard is crucial because “going into the election year and also coming from the background of political turmoil across the continent, there is the need to trumpet and echo the clarion call for free, peaceful and fair elections.”
