Week three of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) will see Asante Kotoko travel to Tarkwa to face Medeama SC at the T&A Park.
The Porcupine Warriors recorded their first win of the season when they defeated Inter Allies by a lone goal to nil last week. Although the performance in that game was not the best, the result kept Kotoko with touching distance of highflyers Dreams FC and Ashanti Gold.
Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side are now set for a far tougher test, with Medeama waiting on the sidelines for a clash on Wednesday.
The Tarkwah-based side have won one and lost the other in their opening two games of the season and will be looking to make it two wins from three.
Medama may have lost a couple of their key players, but the core of the team that reached the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup two years ago is still intact and Kotoko will definitely be wary of that.
The likes of Kwasi Donsu, Paul Aidoo and James Akaminko are players who boast the quality to change games on their own at any point in time.
Kotoko are unbeaten in their first two games of the season as well, but that unbeaten run would be under serious threat when they travel to the T&A Park.
Kotoko's last visit to Medeama ended in a 1-1 draw and they will need to put up another performance sort if they are to emerge from Wednesday’s game unscathed.
Dreams FC and Ashanti Gold have already set the pace at the top of the league table, but if Kotoko really want to really challenge for the title this season, then they will need to better the performance of Medeama.
On a normal day, Kotoko should start as favourites but the resurgence of Medama in recent years means that they will be no pushovers come Wednesday.
