The main theatre of the Axim Government Hospital in the Western region has been shut down.
Officials say the 40-year-old structure is too weak to be used as it poses a hazard to health workers and patients.
The shutdown is, however, prompting fears many people will die for lack of emergency care.
Joy News’ Ina Thalia Quansah reports that the theatre has become a dilapidated skeletal structure with no equipment.
The principal health administrator of the hospital Dome Gospel describes the situation as unfortunate.
“The windows are being closed with wooden frame and some louvre blades and with these opening from outside makes atmosphere air enter the operating theatre. Medically this is not acceptable,” he said.
