Forty-seven people with disabilities in the Wa West district of the Upper West Region have been given a total of GHC47, 000 as part of their share of the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF).The Wa West District Chief Executive Dasaana N.S. Adamu presenting cheques to the beneficiaries at Wechiau, the district capital, admonished them to put the money in the areas they have requested for its use."If you say you are going to use it for farming, this is a good season for it because the rains are here. Use the money to buy equipment and machines that would facilitate your work so that you don’t rely on anybody in the society," he added.Mr. Dasaana stated that the money given to people living with disabilities in the district is an ample demonstration of the National Democratic Congress government's firm resolve to ensure that all sectors of the society benefit from their share of the national cake.He commended the district management team of the disability fund for ensuring that prospective beneficiaries had their applications properly scrutinized before they were considered. He advised them not to rest on their oars and stick to the provision of the guidelines so that people with disabilities will get the 2% of their share from the common fund intact and on time.Per the guidelines, Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies are enjoined to cede 2% of the assembly’s common fund to people with disabilities (PWD).The Wa West District Chairman of People with Disabilities, Peter Dery Donvuo thanked the assembly and the government for coming to their aid and promised that the money will be used for the intended purposes.
