The National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, says payment of claims for the last quarter for 2016 will begin from this week.
Communications Manager for the NHIA, Barima Sarpong, said the payment is not going to be done outright, he said the facilities to be paid have been grouped to facilitate payment.
Barima Sarpong urged facilities providing services to NHIS customers to exercise restraint because all their claims will be paid.
He said anyone who claims the scheme is failing and being poorly managed should provide proof of such claims.
Barima Sarpong said currently, the success and prudent management is attracting international students form New York State University to understudy Ghana's NHIS.
He said the NHIA has proposed health tax on tobacco, a portion of the road fund and revenue from Ghana's oil to fund the NHIS.
He urged the working class to also voluntarily donate one percent of their salaries to fund the NHIS as a legacy for future generations.
