Ghana’s number one DJ, DJ Black and radio personality extraordinaire, Sammy B have teamed up to treat listeners of Friday night’s best radio show, the Weekend Warmer on Joy FM, to the country’s first ever radio comedy play.
The play dubbed Movie Time, each week sees the two re-enacting some of the world’s renowned plays with interesting twists and humour bringing listeners jaw-dropping and rib-cracking world-class performances.
DJ Black, host of the Weekend Warmer told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that “We just go with the flow; we stick to the storyline of great and popular stories but add twists just to create humour.”
Citing examples, DJ Black known in real life as Kwadwo Ampofo, explained “For instance, we would let Moses [in the Bible] use a helicopter and go to Mount Sinai, have lunch with Papa JHWH (God), and comeback with an iPad of the Ten Commandments.”
“We would let Jesus use a Harley Davidson [bike] to enter Jerusalem or allow Peter to make calls with Jericho mobile services, just to make it different and creative,” he added.
The play started airing last year and has seen DJ Black and Sammy B, known in real life as Samuel Kwame Bampoe, re-enact popular plays such as Cinderella and the Opanka Shoe, The Last Supper aka Obaaya Gethsemane, Ali Baba and the Thieves, Romeo and Juliet, Moses and the Ten Commandments, and a host of others.
The plays have no end in sight as the two have promised to bring the best of radio plays to listeners.
DJ Black urged listeners to tune in to Joy FM every Friday from 8pm to 12am to be part of the plays’ weekly unfolding surprises and intrigues.
Listen to the attached audio for Cinderella and the Opanka Shoe aired March 30.
