The Police in Tema have re-arrested one of five suspects who escaped from their cells at the Community Two Police Station two months ago.
The suspects were on remand for various crimes.
One of the suspects, Richard Kwabena Opoku was re-arrested at the Community ‘5’ traffic light when he was about to board a trotro bound for Ashaiman.
He has since been sentenced to three years imprisonment.
The Acting Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police, Corporal Joseph Barabu appealed to the public to assist with information on the remaining fugitives.
“He was charged with escaping from lawful custody. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour,” the Corporal stated.
“Tema Regional Police Command is calling on all and sundry to help us re-arrest the remaining four. They are: Oluwa Femi, a Nigerian, Ogwuna Uche Jude, also a Nigerian, Prosper Nyayekpor from Adedome…and Emmanuel Korlin, native of Accra…”
Meanwhile, Police in Accra have arrested one more person in connection with riots that occurred at Dankyira, a suburb of the capital last month.
Three persons were arrested last week after allegations they instigated the riots between two factions in the community over a parcel of land.
A 15-year old boy was said to have been injured in an ensuing gun battle.
The four arrested so far will reappear in court on August 13.
The Public Affairs Officer of the Accra Region Police, DSP Freeman Tettey told Joy News the police were working hard to arrest those at large.
