Amateur Boxer Maxwell Amponsah has told Joy Sports he is eager to make a return to the ring following the disappointment of his inability to participate in the recently ended London Olympic Games. According to the Black Bombers boxer, doctors have given him six week after the Olympics to recover fully and make his desired return to the ring. Amponsah who was Ghana’s flag bearer at the Olympic Games was unable to compete after Olympic doctors passed him unfit to fight on the grounds that he had not recovered fully from a previous surgery. “Before we went to London, I was determined to win something for my nation. I was in Cardiff for the training tour and everything was fine. After our arrival in London I realised two days to the event that there was a bit of pain and I reported this to my coaches,” he narrated. The boxer who has now returned home has been doing some light training and hopes to bounce back soon. The 26-year-old is also looking forward to turning professional soon after the unfortunate events at the Olympic Games. “I am looking forward to fighting in the Association of International Amateur Boxing Association’s (AIBA) professional programme which gives amateur boxers fight opportunities and a platform to earn money. If that doesn’t work I will immediately join the professional ranks,” he revealed to Joy Sports. Amponsah who is a heavyweight boxer is now 26 and says he is grateful for the experience at the Olympics even though he did not compete and is now looking ahead into the future. “I don’t have the Rio 2016 in mind. Because of my age and the desire to move on I will just go professional,” he said. Amponsah missed out on the boxing event at the Olympic Games after doctors declared it will be dangerous for him to compete. Aside Duke Micah who managed a second round appearance in the boxing event at the London Olympics the other boxers Isaac Dogboe and Sulemana Tetteh failed to make it past the first round.
