A Dormaa Circuit Court at Dormaa Ahenkro has remanded Sampson Awuti, 34, an electrician in custody for allegedly murdering Vida Oteng, his 32-year-old girl friend. His plea was not taken. Chief Inspector Bismarck Boye Lartey told the court presided over by Mr Alexander Osei Tutu that the deceased was a trader at KDS, a suburb of Dormaa Ahenkro while the accused lived at New Town, another suburb of the town. He said on August 18, at about 1745hrs the deceased called the accused on her mobile phone and asked him to come over to her house to inspect a television set she had purchased. Chief Inspector Lartey said the accused hesitated in responding to the call and the delay led the deceased to send the television set to another repairer to work on it. He said the accused followed the deceased to the workshop where the shop owner had failed to repair the television set and therefore, took over and repaired it. The prosecution said on their way to the deceased’s house, the accused enquired from the deceased why she insulted him in public for not responding quickly to her call. He said this led to a fight during which the accused slapped the deceased. Chief Inspector Lartey said the deceased retaliated by hitting the accused with a blunt cutlass but on-lookers separated them and sent the accused away, moments later, the accused returned and pounced on the deceased with fury and kicked her several times with both legs leaving her unconscious. The prosecutor said the accused rushed to the Dormaa Ahenkro Police station to report an assault case against the deceased but before the police could attend to him the deceased came to the police station with blood oozing from her nostrils. He said when the deceased reached the police station, she collapsed and was rushed to the Emergency Unit of the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital but was pronounced dead a few minutes later. The corpse has since been deposited at the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital mortuary pending autopsy while the accused would re-appear on September 4. The accused and the deceased had co-habited for four years until the incident.
