Spanish source El Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona had showed interest in a trio of Arsenal players prior to successfully luring Alex Song to the Nou Camp.
The Catalan side had apparently run the rule over Thomas Vermaelen, Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby before a bid was registered for Cameroon international Song, who last month completed a move from the North London club to the La Liga giants.
Arsene Wenger has watched a succession of players leave the North London club for Barcelona during his tenure as Gunners boss with the likes of Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Alexander Hleb, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas all completing moves away from Arsenal.
The fear for Arsenal fans may be that Barcelona continue to pursue any of the aforementioned talents with perhaps defender Thomas Vermaelen holding the most interest given the relative lack of defensive options in Vilanova’s squad.
