Farmers in the country have been urged to adopt climate-smart agriculture to ensure food security.
Acting Director of Crop Services at the Ministry of Agriculture (MOFA), Seth Osei Akoto said the country’s climate had changed and farming as usual cannot sustain the socio-economic development of the country.
He made the call at a workshop on Creating Green Business through Climate Smart Agriculture which was under the auspices of the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GICC) in Accra.
Mr. Osei Akoto indicated that, Ghana has developed the National Climate Smart Agriculture and Food Security Action Plan to serve as a vehicle for the implementation of the agriculture and food security.
The MOFA Crop Services Director noted that, the country has a great diversity of Agro-ecological and socio-economic conditions which when added to climate smart agriculture could boost the sector.
“The Ministry of Food and Agriculture strongly believe that Ghana’s current agriculture achievements can further be improved” he stated.
He said green business and climate-smart agriculture are important areas which can contribute towards the required improvement.
Mr. Osei Akoto urged the participants to contribute their quota by adopting climate-smart agric techniques in order to make food security in Ghana a reality.
