Ghana star Michael Essien gave a good account of himself as Real Madrid run rout over Ajax in Match Day two of the Uefa Champions League.
Madrid pummeled the de Godenzonen 4-1 in Amsterdam with the Portuguese Star Christiano Ronaldo netting his second hat-trick of the season in just three days.
Essien lasted for 70 minutes and was instrumental in the midfield for the galacticos.
The former Chelsea Star combined well in midfield with Xabi Alonso who had a lot more space to operate with Essien mopping up well just in front of the Madrid defence.
Real Madrid had taken the lead early in the first half through Ronaldo with an easy tap-in from close range. He was played through by Karim Benzema who was to score an incredible over head kick from a sumptuous Kaka cross early in the second half.
Ajax came back strongly pulling one back with a header and looked poised for come-back but Ronaldo put the game beyond the host with a well taken shot from 25 yards.
Ronaldo put the icing on the cake with a cheeky flick over the Ajax goal keeper for a well deserved 4-1 romping of the host.
Madrid play Barcelona in first leg of the El-classico on Sunday at the Nou Camp.
