Following fourth place finish at a recently-held T20 tournament in South Africa, the Ghana cricket team has immediately thrown focus on preparing for next year’s division six cricket tournament in a yet to be named host country.
Ghana won four out of seven matches the ICC Africa T20 Tournament in Benoni City, South Africa – a record not strong enough to hand then the ultimate title in the week-long tournament. The team arrived in Ghana at the weekend and are expected to enter full scale training for the ICC World League Series Division 7 tournament.
Ghana earned the place in the Division 7 Tournament after recording a second place finish in the ICC Division 8 tournament in Samoa following a loss to Vanuatu in the final. Ghana and Vanuatu will play in the Division 7 tournament by virtue of their positions as winner and runner-up.
In an interview, Ghana Cricket Association Secretary, Francis Asare told Joy Sports his outfit has laid down measures to build a solid team for the tournament. “As part of our plans we have arranged some matches with Nigeria later this year where we will play them in a fifty over match and a 20 over match. We want to get the team in good shape so we can qualify to the next division,” he told Joy Sports.
The team is hoping to make a steady progression to the highest ranking divisions of world cricket within the next two years.
