The Head of Family Medicine at FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital, Dr. Gerhard Ofori-Amankwah has been appointed Chairman, Faculty of Family Medicine-Ghana chapter of the West Africa College of Physicians (WACP).
At a colorful event held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Dr. Ofori-Amankwah received a total acclamation from his faculty. His appointment means, he will represent Ghana in matters relating to the West Africa College of Physicians in the sub-region.
In addition, he has been tasked to spearhead the growth of the Faculty of Family Medicine in Ghana and galvanize the Faculty to achieve their set goals and objectives
Speaking to the media after his appointment, Dr. Ofori Amankwah said, “We have quite a few Specialists, Consultants, and Residents in the country and we need to improve the number in terms of various programs the Faculty runs in Ghana.
“Our vision, is to continue the good work of the outgone executives and formulate new ones that will propel the faculty to greater heights”.
Dr. Ofori Amankwah will oversee stakeholder engagements with sister bodies such as the Ghana College and World Organization of Family Doctors. He takes over from Dr. David Nortey whose tenure as Faculty Chairman ended last week.
As head of Family Medicine at FOCOS, he is responsible for both inpatient and outpatient cases comprising staff and dependents as well as the members of the surrounding communities.
Prior to joining FOCOS in October 1, 2015, he had worked with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Goldfields Ghana Mine Hospital, Tarkwa where he served as the Chief Medical Officer.
He was the Vice-president of Society of Family Physicians of Ghana (SOFPOG) from 2014-2016 and was appointed as an examiner of the West African College of Physicians, Faculty of Family Medicine for both the Membership and Fellowship examinations in October 2016.
In addition, he served as a member of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) planning committee of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).
FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital is a 70-bed Specialist Orthopaedic Hospital located in the Pantang area of Accra, Ghana and is noted for the treatment of complex spine and joint diseases like Scoliosis, Kyphosis as well as other degenerative and deformative Orthopaedic conditions
