Leading destination inspection company, Gateway Services, has introduced what it says are innovative technologies to enhance faster clearing of goods at the ports.
The company which pioneered scanning services at Ghana’s ports has developed Computerized Risk Management system and a Transaction Price Database for verification of imports.
It has also introduced a mobile short messaging system by which importers are notified after their documents have been examined.
This means shippers who hitherto had to write letters to GSL to effect changes made to their import documents as a result of errors can send test messages to correct them.
Corporate Services Manager, Amma Addo, says the initiatives are in response to calls by shippers for improved and speedy service delivery.
She was speaking at a sensitization program the company organized in collaboration with Ghana Shippers Authority.
The TPD for instance, is a custom-built database developed and use by Gateway Services Limited to verify FOB values of imports.
Mrs. Addo says the introduction of modern technologies will help eliminate fraud.
“These are some of the measures we believe will help in eliminating fraud, price discrimination, fiscal evasion as a result of over invoicing, under valuation as well as wrong declaration of tariff codes”, she said.
Currently certified by the ISO 9001:2008, GSL says it is committed to operating in a professional and timely manner, aimed at making global trade flow smoother and faster.
Importers have over the years complained about congestion and delays at the ports.
Mrs. Addo however says importers are themselves to blame for under declaring imported goods.
According to her, service delivery will improve and fast-tracked if all industry players play their roles well.
