The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) on Thursday condemned attack on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital by some individuals.
Mr Benjamin K. Botwe, President of the Society stressed that the attitude of attacking officials by some vigilante groups mostly affiliate to political parties were becoming rampant.
He recalled the threats on the Northern Regional Director of Health Services earlier this year that led to the vacation of post.
Mr Botwe noted: “We also note with concern the recent situations where some youth have arrogated to themselves power to re-open Pharmaceutical Service outlets that had been closed by the Pharmacy Council for various breaches of the law in the Region.
“The PSGH takes note of the swift manner in which the Regional Security Council has reacted and calls on the Regional Police Command to intensify the investigations into this and other acts that are inimical to the delivery of health services in the Northern Region”.
The Society enjoined Pharmacists in the Tamale Teaching Hospital to cooperate with all other health workers in the facility to seek their corporate interest and security.
The PSGH President also urged all stakeholders to remain calm and serve the best interest of patients.
He also called on the Police and the Regional Security Council to takes steps to ensure the safety and protection of all employees and patients who patronise the only tertiary hospital in the northern part of the country so that normal duties could resume.
