Three-time Olympian Aziz Zakari has expressed his doubt about competing for Ghana on the World stage after he was strangely excluded from the London 2012.
The 36 year old was axed from Ghana’s team that participated in the London 2012 Olympic Games due to his refusal to participate in two mandatory pre-tournament events organized by the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA).
He has since described his omission as an unfair treatment and is upset with the manner in which the association handled his issue. Aziz is currently taking a break for the rest of the year and is yet to make up his mind as to whether or not he should compete for Ghana and will want to stay away from team Ghana for now.
“Ghanaians will see me on the tracks but they might not see me running for Ghana. Athletics is a world sport so they will see me on their TV running but maybe as Aziz Zakari of Ghana. That is something I will have to think about for now because I don’t want to go through this treatment again. I am really disappointed because I think we had a chance of qualifying a relay team for the Olympics but the lack of communication put the entire team in jeopardy. That really disappoints me.”He told JOY Sports
Aziz Zakari participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics in which he ran the fourth time in his 100 metres heat, behind Richard Thompson, Martial Mbandjock and Simone Collio. His time of 10.34secs was the third losing time after the 10.25secs of Nobuharu Asahara, advancing him to the second round.
He anchored team Ghana in the All Africa Games in Mozambique in 2011 to place second to Nigeria.
