The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Police Service has released a reporter with Adom 106.3 FM, Kofi Assan who was arrested on Monday night.
He was arrested at the Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra. It is not clear why he was arrested but police said he was "obstructing police duty".
The reporter chanced upon an incident between the police and a driver of a commercial vehicle popularly called "trotro" who they tried to force into their vehicle for an alleged traffic offence.
Police arrested Kofi Assan when he tried to record details of the incident which attracted several people, pushed him into their vehicle together with the "trotro" driver and locked him up overnight.
Police refused to release him last night insisting they will only do so on the orders of the Police MTTU Commander, Angwutogbe Awuni. He was released late Tuesday morning.
