The Upper West Region police have shot and killed two of four armed robbers who engaged them in a shoot out following a robbery.
The robbers opened fire on the police as they attempted to escape.
The four robbers had attacked a Tumu bound Metro Mass Transit Bus at Banu in the Sisala East District of the Upper West Region.
The robbers ceased personal effects belonging to the travelers and subjected them to inhuman treatment. However a lady passenger managed to make a distress call to the police, who missed the robbers upon reaching the scene.
District police commander DSP Daniel Kwentwi told Joy News’ correspondent Rafiwq Salaam that his men pursued the robbers to Banu where they killed two of them after the robbers first opened fire on the police two police officers also sustained gunshot wounds.
DSP Kwentwi said a search on the bodies of the deceased led to the discovery of locally made weapons and various sums of money in Cedis and CFA currencies, believed to have been taken from the traders on board the bus.
