On what was just his sixth start for the club, Abdul Mumin was just a few metres away from scoring his first goal in Rayo Vallecano's win over Real Valladolid on Thursday night.
Mumin was named in the starting lineup for the game after coming off the bench in the last league game away from home against Elche.
The Ghana international was paired alongside Alejandro Catena in the heart of Rayo's defence taking the spot of Florian Lejeune, who is suspended.
Mumin played the entire duration of the game and always looked like he had been in the team all season, breaking down attacks and starting his team's buildup from the back.
The 24-year-old's awareness and reading of the game calmed things at the back for Rayo who were unfortunate to concede in the game.
Mumin completed all two of his attempted tackles and made five clearances as well as five ball recoveries to ensure his side took away all three points.
His confidence on the ball was also on display as he completed 22 of his attempted passes while completing his only dribble attempt in the game.
The 2-1 win over Valladolid means Rayo now move ahead of Osasuna and occupies the ninth position on the La Liga table with five games still to go.
Mumin will be looking to keep his place in the team when Rayo face Real Betis in their next league game on May 15.
