The Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, has inaugurated an ultramodern computer training centre for Advanced Vision International School at Agbogba, a suburb of Accra. This state-of-the art Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Centre, which comes with brand new computers, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Projector, webcams, headsets and Internet access, was an initiative of Techcom Visions Limited, a Ghanaian information technology solutions company under its ICT services for schools dubbed ‘Eduboost.’ The Deputy Information minister, who was the special guest at the ceremony, highlighted the essence of computer skills and the government’s commitment to get Ghana on the information technology superhighway. He indicated that ICT was the way forward to bridging the socio-economic divide between Ghana and the developed world and consequently called on all Ghanaians to try to become computer literate irrespective of their age. He commended the contribution of Techcom Visions Limited for complementing the effort of the government by making computers available to schools. Mr Ablakwa encouraged private school owners to work closely with ICT companies such as Techcom Visions to establish appropriate ICT training centres for their schools. For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Techcom Visions, Mr Tsonam Cleanse Akpeloo, said the company would continue to give students the head start in information technology to help them to broaden their worldview and facilitate teaching, learning and management of schools. Mr Akpeloo, therefore, encouraged more schools to sign up for the Eduboost platform. Under the Eduboost, Techcom Visions establishes modern ICT training centres, provide comprehensive school management software, school website, e-learning software, ICT refresher courses for teachers and manages the ICT infrastructure for its partner schools. The Minister of Education, Mr Lee Ocran, in an address read on his behalf by the ICT Co-ordinator for the ministry, noted that ICT enhanced quality of education by making teaching and learning more practical, meaningful and exciting. He, therefore, encouraged the students to make maximum use of the facility. Parents at the inauguration ceremony expressed their happiness for the establishment of the computer centre in the school and encouraged their wards to utilise the facility to the fullest. The proprietor of the school, Mr Samuel Botchway, recounted how the centre had already uplifted the image of his school with students excited to see an ultramodern computer centre in their school.
