Organisers of the upcoming Absa Black Star Marathon have paid a courtesy call on Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC), as preparations intensify ahead of the highly anticipated event scheduled for 26 July 2025.
The delegation, led by Dr Eric Kwame Adae, founder of the marathon, visited Mr Deen at his office in Accra to provide an update on the event’s progress and to formally invite him to attend.
During the meeting, Dr Adae offered a detailed briefing on key aspects of the marathon, including logistics, promotional activities, and projected turnout. Notably, he revealed that over 60 para athletes, both men and women have registered to compete.
“I’m pleased to report that about 60 para athletes have already signed up for the event,” said Dr Adae.
“Their participation is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity in sport.”
The meeting also served as a platform to explore future collaboration between the marathon organisers and the African Paralympic Committee.
Discussions focused on advancing a shared vision of inclusion, excellence, and opportunity within Africa’s sporting community.
A key moment of the visit was the formal invitation extended to Mr Deen to grace the marathon with his presence. As a leading voice in African sports and a staunch advocate for disability rights, his attendance is expected to boost the event’s profile and inspire athletes of all abilities.
“Inclusion is not charity—it is justice,” Mr Deen said.
“When every athlete, regardless of ability, is given a lane to run, the finish line becomes a victory for humanity. I will always stand where every voice is heard, and every dream has a chance to race.”
Now in its latest edition, the Absa Black Star Marathon has steadily grown in scope and prestige, aiming to unite athletes, promote wellness, and foster community spirit.
This year’s race promises to be one of the most diverse and dynamic yet, with inclusive participation at its core.
With just over a week to go, organisers say preparations are well underway. The team is working around the clock to deliver a seamless and impactful experience for all involved.
