Ghana Para Sports has reached a historic milestone as para swimmer Promise Aheto becomes the country’s first-ever representative to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.
The global showpiece scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23rd July to 2nd August.
Aheto secured his spot via a bipartite slot following his outstanding performances at the World Para Swimming Series in Australia earlier this year.
He clocked personal best times of 1:38.58 in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke S9 and 31.72 in the Men’s 50m Freestyle S13, earning the right to compete in either event at Glasgow.
“I want to thank the President of NPC Ghana Mr. Samson Deen, the NPC board, GOC, CDM Glasgow 26, and our Para Swimming Board for their unwavering support in getting our swimmer to the world stage,” Ghana Para Swimming Association President Farida Iddriss said in a statement released.

“Promise Aheto’s qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games is not just a personal triumph, but a defining moment in Ghana’s sporting history.
“As our first-ever para swimming representative at the Commonwealth Games, Promise carries the hopes of a nation ready to embrace inclusivity and celebrate excellence in all its forms.
“His achievement signals a new chapter, one where talent is nurtured, barriers are broken, and opportunities are expanded for every Ghanaian athlete.”
Promise had impressed at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Australia during the Para Swimming World Series.
He opened his campaign in Heat 5 of the 100m Breaststroke, clocking 1:38.98, just one second shy of his personal best.
Day Two saw Promise step up with a personal best of 40.55 in the 50m Breaststroke, finishing as second reserve for the finals while Bryan also clocked a time of solid 54.89s in the same event.
On the final day, he also smashed his previous 50m Freestyle personal best of 33.95 with a new time of 31.72.
