Residents of Adabraka and its environs last Saturday October 11, 2014, were treated to a free health screening exercise organized by the Accra Brewery in partnership with Graphic and GIZ, with support from Kinapharma and Ernest Chemists.
The event, which is organized annually to improve the lives of people living in the Adabraka community, where Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) operates, attracted over 500 participants who benefited from free dental screening, NHIS registration as well as general medical screening and treatment.
This year, the health screening was expanded to include eye and breast examinations and those with serious health conditions were referred to hospitals.
Speaking at the function, Anthony Grendon, MD of ABL, said the exercise is part of the company’s efforts in fostering healthy communities where individual wellbeing is promoted for prosperity.
“Health is an essential component in the development of every community. At Accra Brewery, we recognise that it makes commercial sense to invest in the well-being of the communities in which we operate because the prosperity of the community and our company are co-dependent,” he affirmed.
He assured the Adabraka community of ABL’s continuous support and active participation in the sustainable development of the community in all ways possible, adding, his appreciation goes to their partners in this exercise - GIZ, Kinapharma, Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ernest Chemists - and the medical personnel as well as their sister company, Voltic Ghana Limited, for donating natural mineral water to refresh the participants.
During the health screening, Mr. Kenneth Ashigbey, Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited said, “Graphic and Accra Brewery believe that the mark of any good corporate citizen is the willingness to contribute to the social and economic life of the very society that helps it make profit. This is why we found it appropriate to work with Accra Brewery to share our profits with you, the people of Adabraka - our landlord.”
He expressed his appreciation to the community for creating a peaceful atmosphere for them to do business in, noting, the part they play in bringing the free healthcare to them therefore is their token expression of thanks for being a kind host.
Accra Brewery’s Sustainable Development Policy amongst other goals, aims at improving the quality of life of local residents. During its decades of operation, the company has focused on the need to create and exist in a thriving and clean productive environment.
It is against this backdrop that ABL has over the past six years partnered with Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) to organize free health screenings to the Adabraka community and its environs.
