The Chairperson of the Ghana NCD Alliance has called on government to make conscious efforts to tackle the high rate of preventable deaths from Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
According to Dr Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, people living with diabetes, hypertension, stroke, and glaucoma, among others, die quickly due to lack of attention.
She was speaking to the media during medical screening at Nkwanta Kesse, a farming community in the Afigya Kwabre North district in the Ashanti Region.

The exercise is one in a series of activities to mark this year's Global Week for Action on NCDs in Ghana to ensure accelerated progress on NCD prevention.
This event is always marked between September 6 and 12 annually.
“The government must do many community engagements to educate the people on the NCDs, train more nurses at the rural areas to offer first aid assistance and education to the people.
"Government can team up with Civil Society Organisation (CSO) like the Ghana NCD Alliance, BCI, and others to create more awareness on NCDs,” Dr Wiafe Addai suggested.

She advised the public to frequently visit health facilities to know their health status to prevent untimely deaths.
The chief of Nkwanta Kesse, Nana Boakye Yam, commended Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai for her effort to provide medical care to his people.
Nana Yam said it helps them to avoid self self-medication.
