With the growing concerns of lack of water running through the taps in Adenta for several years, government has assured that there will be an end to the water supply problem in the area next year.
According to the Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Collins Dauda, government is feverishly working around the clock to ensure that the people of Adenta and its environs get sufficient water running through their taps net year.
However, the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) have asked that the new developments springing up in Kpong through Dodowa to Adenta should be factored in the new water project being constructed from the Kpong Water Works.
Water Resources Works and Housing Minister, Collins Dauda told Parliament yesterday, that the project is 90 per cent complete.
He indicated that government had secured US$260Million loan from the Chinese government with a support of US$13million coming from the Ghana government to help expand the water supply system from Kpong by 40Million gallons of water a day
"Work on the project started in June 2011 and expected to be completed by December 2014. The transmission pipe line which has been routed through dodowa to adenta is 90% complete. The water treatment plant, the booster station and the intake are all nearing completion", the minister asserted
Some residents have cast doubt on government’s assurance as similar promises in the past have not been fulfilled.
Speaking to JOY NEWS, Executive Director of CONIWAS, Ben Arthur, has asked that government must ensure that homes springing up around Adenta also get water when supply from Kpong resumes next year.
"We are aware of the level of investment that had gone in in terms of bringing water from Kpong through into the system. Ideally, it is hopeful that if the system is finished, people of Adenta will get water," Mr. Arthur noted.
