The Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian, Ghana, the Right Reverend Dr. Livingstone Buama, has called on leadership to evolve strategies and policies that would transform the continent's untapped resources into wealth for self-reliance.
He said Africa continued to be the most endowed continent and yet the most impoverished continent with its people walloping in abject poverty, disease and underdevelopment.
Rev. Dr. Buama, who made the call at the 17th Central Presbytery Conference of the EP Church, Ghana at Hohoe entreated leadership in the church, work and politics to condemn wrong doing totally rather than glorifying it, to serve as benchmarks on which the continent's development would revolve.
The four-day conference, being attended by the 14 districts within the presbytery is under the theme: "Christian Stewardship, a Revisit".
He said besides the continent's endowment, it is noted for, "holding cups in hand," begging for alms to mitigate the problems of its people.
"Out of abundance, Africa wallops in poverty and underdevelopment and out of meager land size and infertility the developed countries produce enough to feed us," the Moderator stated.
Rev. Dr. Buama said the political and religious stewardship revisited should change the outlook of Africa in contemporary times in order that God would be glorified.
He said the time had come when people’s attitude towards time, environment and work must change for the better to rekindle hope and bring the desired development to Ghana and developing countries.
Rev. Dr Buama urged the Church to play a frontal role in enhancing change in its totality beyond the spiritual upliftment of its congregations.
Mr. John Peter Amewu, Hohoe District Chief Executive commended the Church for complementing government's efforts to alleviate poverty among the citizenry, specifically the provision of health, education facilities, water and sanitation.
