The first edition of AfroFit was launched on Wednesday, August 23, in Accra.
The launching of the initiative by Bensyl Ghana and AfroFit Global Foundation was done at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The Mr and Mrs AfroFit Fitness Sports Competition 2023 seeks to inspire a new generation of fitness enthusiasts while promoting diversity, inclusion, wellness, and gender equality across the African continent.
The introduction of the project is to mark the beginning of an extraordinary journey that will empower individuals to embrace a healthier lifestyle.
Speaking at the launching the vice president of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, George Fausta Baffoe said: "What we seek to achieve has to do with fitness and wellness in the Afro fraternity. We feel this has to do with your endurance and stamina."

"We hope that we are going to be able to push forward in terms of our sponsorship drive. We also make corporate Ghana aware that wellness and fitness runs in tandem with productivity."
The launch also saw the attendance of representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The Director in charge of External Health Coordination at the Ministry of Health, Dr Hafiz Adams, opened the doors for the pioneers of the initiative to come to the ministry at all times for collaboration.
"Sometimes they start it beautifully and if they disengage, it means we will not have contact with them and it will be difficult to keep being part of it. So what they have to do is to keep the engagement. They should keep in contact. If they are able to bring the Ministry of Sports and Ministry of Education together and their agencies, we can be able to preach it further. " he said.
Eric Bonsu, who also represented the Sports Ministry, promised the ministry's support for the initiative.
Present at the launch were also representatives from Capital O2, who are sponsors of the event as well as the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association.
Though the target is to move it around the African continent, the first edition is targeting Ghanaians only with the audition set for October 21 with the final show taking place in November.
