Residents of communities which were flooded as a result of a torrential rainfall on Thursday are yet to recover from it.

Residents of Alajo, Avenor, Mallam Junction Kwame Nkrumah Circle which were worst hit by the floods lost their personal belongings to the floods. The Kotoka International Airport was not spared by the floods.

At some places where Joy News reporters visited on Friday, vehicles were stuck in thick mud, home appliances and other properties were floating in the stagnant water.

Drains were filled with sand and filth around Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Avenor and Alajo areas.

Some residents of these areas were seen trying to retrieve remains of properties which were partly destroyed by the floods.

One resident who spoke to Joy News' Flavour Nunoo said she least expected the flooding situation in a capital this year after dozens were killed as a result of a flood and fire disaster last year.

'I don't know why we wait until this time to do anything. The authorities are not helping us. We don't even have a place to pass now ,' she indicated.

Another aggrieved resident said water had entered her room, which destroyed her properties, including fish and corn dough amounting to over GH400. she said she intended to sell them for a living.

Meanwhile, some residents of Ayariga Junction in Legon Westlands who had their own share of the floods have pleaded with city authorities to act swiftly on a blocked waterway in the area.

Some youth in the area had to create a hole through a thick wall to allow passage of water during the heavy downpour.

Some of the residents told Joy News' Manasseh Azure Awuni that the wall, erected by a construction firm, Nunu Construction Limited on the waterway was responsible for the floods.

'We went to them and told them there is a waterway here but they did not mind us,' one resident said.

Meanwhile the Deputy Regional NADMO coordinator in charge of flooding, Evans Anakwa confirmed the concerns of the residents.

He said he visited the place and has reported the problem to the engineers of the assembly for necessary actions to be taken.

Evans Anakwa added that a meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 15 for a resolution of the problem.
