The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Ohene Ntwo has described as "unnecessary" his invitation to the Criminal Investigative Department following last week’s clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress in the Kokomba market. Mr. Ntow’s name was mentioned by a supporter of the NPP who lodged a complaint with the police prior to the clashes, but his role, if there is one, in the bloody clashes has been undefined. Three people were butchered to death and others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the clashes which could be described as a turf war. The police as part of investigations have requested the return of Mr. Ntow on Tuesday after what appears to be an inconclusive encounter on Monday. But the General Secretary could not fathom how he could be linked to the clashes, except to say that the invitation was unnecessary. “I was surprised to hear that the person (interrogator) said after he (supporter) spoke to them, he was going to talk to me, and that was about it. Because the person said he was going to talk to me, then I should know about it. “I told them I don’t know anything about it. I have not been in any meeting with anybody to cause violence or to commit murder,” he told Joy News’ Evans Mensah after his encounter with the CID. He however admitted knowing and having discussions with the said supporter on a possible resettlement plan for some NPP supporters from Tamale but insisted; “I don’t see how I could be connected with the violence in Agbogbloshie.” According to him, he advised the unnamed supporter to notify the police of their intention to return to Agbogbloshie, where they lived prior to the 2008 elections, whilst he consulted his leadership for a solution. He said under no circumstances was he privy to any plan of violence. Listen to excerpts of the interview with Nana Ntow in the attached audio Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
