Airtel Ghana assisted Adansi Clinic in the Western Region to get water and electricity supply restored, and also supplied the clinic with standby generator, computers, mattresses for patients and two motorbikes for easy movement of staff.

This forms part of season three of Airtel Touching Lives, which is under the theme “Make your change”.

Prior to the intervention from the Telco, the community clinic, which serves over 3,000 people of Adansi and its environs, did so under very trying conditions.

No electricity, no water and poor roads, staff of the clinic were forced to improvise and go the extra mile in their treatment of patients.

Staff of the clinic hitherto had to walk from their homes or from the clinic to outreach centres to offer care to the invalid, a situation which affected the quality of service given.

Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Airtel, Mr Donald Gwira observed that the Telco was touched and inspired by the commitment of staff of the clinic to their work amidst the difficulties and conditions under which they worked.

“The make your change campaign is premised on attributes as exhibited by these personalities and our intervention is meant among others to motivate the workers in that health facility to continue giving off their best,” he pointed out.

Additionally, the intervention became necessary to avoid deaths of patients due to the dire situation in which the clinic found itself.

In another development, a teacher, Mr Elvis Cletus Afrifa alias Omega, has been empowered by Airtel Ghana to continue touching the lives of children in his school and in his community.

In appreciation of his efforts and selflessness, Airtel gave out learning materials for Mr Afrifa’s children, is bearing the cost and requirements of registering his agency as well as providing for him a business which will generate income to sustain his agency.

Mr Afrifa can now achieve his dream of establishing an agency that will support and provide for the needs of children of school going age to do so.

“I am overwhelmed and I don’t know what to say, except to say that am proud of these little children whom I think I have been privileged as a teacher to serve,” he said in reaction to the package which was announced in the episode three of the Airtel Touching Lives initiative.

Mr Afrifa who hails from Yamoase has over 90 children in his care. He pays for their feeding at school, provides stationery and goes to the extent of procuring National Health Insurance (NHIL) cards for the children to access health care.

He took a loan from a bank to buy a taxi to generate income to be able to sponsor more children.

Mr Afrifa sacrificed his personal needs in favour of his students in a bid to see them excel and be motivated to attend school and study.

Out of his meagre salary, he catered for children from his school and provided for their feeding, teaching and almost everything else which served as a barrier to their education.

His passion to see to the well being of the needy children in his community led him to sponsor majority of them in their education.

“Now I don’t think of my future but I’m thinking of the poor children and my conscience pricks me if I fail to cater for them,” he said in an interview.

It is obvious from these stories that Airtel Touching Lives 3 is living to expectation of impacting communities by rewarding heroes who are making their change in their society.

The 4^th episode of Touching Lives 3 will be aired this weekend on Viasat 1, Metro TV and Multi TV (Joy News) on Friday;  TV Africa, GTV and Multi TV (Cine Afrik, Joy TV, Hitz TV, Adom TV) -on Saturday and TV3 on Sunday.
