Airtel’s youth football programme aimed at discovering U-17 football stars across the country will commence on Friday, 6th, at the Ho Stadium, in the Volta Region.
The programme dubbed “Airtel Rising Stars”, which is in its 4th season, will give colts footballers, especially those registered with the National Juvenile Committee of the Ghana Football Association, the opportunity to compete with their colleagues across the country.
A statement signed by Donald Gwira, Head of Corporate Communications said the competition will also provide opportunity for outstanding players to make a way into a special Airtel Under-17 tournament to be held in Gabon in August.
“Airtel is hopeful of discovering a lot more boys and girls that will benefit the nation in the future. In the past we have had Priscilla Okyere who has gone on to captain the national U-17 team, Black Maidens to third place in the World Cup and currently plays for the U-21.
“At the last U-17 World Cup we had four of the players from the last ARS featuring for the U-17 in Costa Rica. This year we expect more”, He said.
This year’s Zonal games are scheduled for Ho, Tamale, Cape Coast and Kumasi with the national finals in Sunyani.
