Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo has denied his daughter Nana Dokua and son of former President Rawlings Kimathi, plan to get married.
Nana Akufo-Addo who is currently on a tour of the Upper West Region, issued a statement on Wednesday to deny the story which was published by Alhaji Bature’s “Al-Hajj” newspaper on Tuesday.
Read the full statement:
The attention of the office of Nana Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2012 Presidential Candidate, who is currently touring the Upper West Region ahead of the December elections, has been drawn to a publication in the Al Hajj newspaper on Tuesday, 26th June, 2012, alleging that Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings, son of the former first couple, is set to marry Nana Akufo-Addo's daughter, Edwina Nana Dokua Akufo-Addo.
We wish to place on record that the publication is an outright fabrication, that there is no truth whatsoever in this story. The printing of this falsehood is yet another example in the series of malicious lies and fabrications that the NDC leaning media continues to churn out against Nana Akufo-Addo and his family in an attempt to distract the public from the NDC's failures.
Nana Dokua has confirmed to her father that there is no truth whatsoever in the story. In addition, the office of ex-President Rawlings and Mr. Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings have stated that there is absolutely no liaison and the story is mischievous.
We would hope that the Ghanaian media, in the interest of truth, public discourse and public decency will desist from printing scurrilous lies and stop involving the children of public figures in their crude attempts at political mudslinging
