A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow, says it is only the party’s 2016 flagbearer who can calm the troubled NPP waters in the midst of calls for the resignation of the national Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
Nana Ohene Ntow is asking Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to publicly affirm his support for the troubled duo or publicly reject a campaign for their removal.
“I expect Nana Addo who is the presidential candidate to speak to the issue. He must declare his stance and say 'I reject this campaign against Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong,' I can work with them or say I accept the calls for their resignation and I cannot work with them”, he stressed on Adom FM's 'Dwaso Nsem' Tuesday.

Nana Ohene Ntow
He wants the statement to be made ahead of an emergency meeting to be held this week by the NPP National Council of Elders.
Explaining the basis of his suggstion, Mr. Ohene Ntow argued that Nana Addo’s loyalists are rallying calls for a vote of no confidence in Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong.
According to him, the loyalists believe their campaign is in the interest of the flagbearer.
Although, the flagbearer has distanced himself from the vote of no confidence campaign, Nana Ohene Ntow says the flagbearer fell short of affirming support for Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong.
The two are under pressure in the party from supporters who believe Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong do not have the best interest of the party at heart.

Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong
Some say the party’s chances of winning 2016 elections stands endangered with the continued stay of the two in office.
This has culminated in regional meetings to pass a vote of no confidence on the two. Three regions – Central, Volta and Eastern regions claimed they had passed the vote after simultaneous meetings on Monday. Later, three other regions, Western, Greater Accra and Upper West also joined. Brong Ahafo however disagreed.
According to Nana Ohene Ntow, the ball falls in the court of the flagbearer to shore up confidence in the two national executives or reject them.
“It will solve this matter at least for now before going for council meeting”, the former General Secretary said.
The NPP is facing an uphill task to unite after the death of the Upper East regional chairman of the party set off another round of internal party wranglings.

The late Adams Mahama
Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong stand accused and have been linked to the events leading to the acid attack on the Upper East regional chairman, Adams Mahama.
Ohene Ntow said he has never seen this level of persecution against party officers just two months after they were elected.
Any action against the two is an action against the party, he maintained.
