New Patriotic Party flagbearer hopeful Nana Akufo-Addo has announced his intention to suspend his campaign from August 4, to August 13, 2014.
This is to enable polling station and constituency party executives remain focused ahead of the limited registration exercise of new and eligible voters as announced by the Electoral Commission.
“Despite the legitimate concerns raised by Nana Akufo-Addo about the credibility of our current voters' register, the suspension of the campaign, nonetheless, is to enable party executives across the country prepare and remain vigilant during the registration period, so as to ensure that only eligible voters get their names onto the electoral register,” his office said in a statement.
Nana Akufo-Addo was scheduled to be in the Brong Ahafo, Ashanti, Eastern and Volta regions from August 3 to August 10. Campaigning in these regions have, therefore, been rescheduled and the new dates communicated to the regions.
Nana Akufo-Addo's campaign will resume on August 14, ahead of the Special Electoral College scheduled to take place on August 31, with the Eastern Region being the first point of call.
