Chiefs and elders in the Akwamu Traditional Area in the Asuogyaman District of Eastern Region have unanimously agreed to suspend the 80 days ban on drumming and noise making this year. The calendar for the year could not make room for such events, making social and political event planners fix their activities such as funerals and rallies within the period. The ban is usually enforced immediately after the celebration of the Akwasidae festival, however, the leaders of the area say they have appealed to the gods due to the fact that, many people were not well informed about timing of the ban and also because the General Elections are a little over three months away.Paramount Chief for the Akwamu Traditional Area Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III disclosed this to Myjoyonline.com at the recent Akwasidae festival, celebrated at Akwamufie over the weekend. The last Akwasidae festival also marked the beginning of preparations towards a grand home-coming festival to be celebrated alongside the Adaekese festival for citizens from Akwamuman, scheduled to take place from 4th-11th November 2012.Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III also used the occasion to advise youth of the area not to get involved in acts that could mar the elections, as the nations needs the prevailing peace and stability to develop.Meanwhile, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III has dared government to come out to state who took monies meant for payment as compensation to people in Akwamuman, who were displaced as result of the construction of the Akosombo Hydro-electric Dam.Government is reported to have paid about Ghc20 million (200 billion old cedis) as compensation to chiefs of Apaaso and Ahamandi for lands acquired to build the Dam.However, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III said as far as his findings were concerned, none of the chiefs in the areas mentioned, confirmed to receiving any compensation from government for such purpose.
