Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has categorically denied the allegations levelled against him by some police officers who appeared before the ad-hoc committee investigating an alleged leaked tape.
Dr. Dampare contends that these allegations lack evidence and have caused immense pain to him, his family, and the entire police force.
Appearing before the Parliamentary committee investigating the alleged leaked tape on Tuesday, September 12, Dr. Dampare expressed the profound distress caused by these baseless allegations, which have also impacted his command, and the dedicated team he collaborates with.
"A pain also to my command, my leaders, my team that we work together, and a pain to the thousands of police officers who appreciate the strides we are making in transforming the organization to be the best institution in the country and the reference point for the rest of the world," he continued.

His comment was in response to initial claims raised by the Director-General of Police (Technical), COP George Alex Mensah, who accused Dr. Dampare of being responsible for the leaked conversation between senior police officers and former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bugri Naabu.
COP Mensah claimed that this information was obtained through intelligence and alleged that the IGP orchestrated both the recording and the subsequent leak.
Additionally, Police Superintendent George Asare aligned himself with COP Mensah's suspicions.
In response to these allegations, Dr. Dampare maintained that these accusations brought forth without evidence have placed an unjust burden on him.
"I, an innocent person focusing on my job, working in consent with my team and all commands across the country to keep the country safe have been asked to come and answer to these allegations which are just wild and baseless and I say to myself, this is not fair.”
He also questioned the proliferation of baseless allegations, stating, "Are we undermining patriotism to the point where anyone can level accusations without merit?".
