The Accra Metropolitan Assembly says with effect from next week, it will prosecute drivers of taxi cabs, who do not have special security and identification numbers embossed on them.
Special Assistant to the mayor of Accra, Ali Baba Abature says there are still a number of drivers who have refused to emboss their vehicles despite the extended grace period.
The city authorities gave the directive six months ago and had to extend the exercise when the deadline expired with a lot of cars yet in the queue.
Taxi drivers were also to wear sea blue shirts and blue-black trousers as official uniform.
Mr. Ali Baba says some 13 thousand cabs have been registered so far but there are still a lot more which are yet to do the registration.
He told Joy News the AMA will work with security agencies to arrest the recalcitrant drivers.
