Amazon announced that those using a Fire TV Cube (2nd gen), 2020 4K Toshiba Fire TV edition and 2020 4K Insignia Fire TV edition will now be able to use picture in picture with Ring Doorbells.

The update comes after Amazon announced earlier this month that Ring is offering an update so that Fire TV owners will be able to receive notifications on their Fire TV screen when the doorbell rings and watch the security camera video in full-screen by saying “Alexa, show me [Ring device name],” or “Alexa, talk to [Ring device name].”

Now, if you’re watching a show and someone rings your Ring doorbell, you’ll see a video feed in the top right corner of your screen.

You can then say, “Alexa, talk to [Ring device name]” to talk to whoever is at the door, or pull-up the camera feed by saying “Alexa, show me [Ring device name]” to expand the video to full screen.

Picture-in-picture is currently compatible with Ring doorbell cameras and non-doorbell security cameras from Ring, Nest, Wyze, and Logitech, among others.

Amazon also recently announced two way video calling on Fire TV Cube, allowing users to pair a webcam with a Fire TV Cube to make and receive calls through a TV to any other Alexa-enabled device with a screen, such as another Fire TV Cube, Echo Show, or the Alexa app on a phone or tablet.

In the same announcement, Amazon shared that now, when you ask Alexa on Fire TV for info while watching TV, your answer won’t interrupt your viewing experience.

Responses will be answered by Alexa on a partial screen overlay on top of full-screen video playback or the Fire TV browse screen background.
